A panel entitled "Crypto Jewish Zamora" was presented at the 25th Conference of the Society of Crypto Jewish Studies celebrated on July 19-21 at the Double Tree Convention Center in Miami.
The panel was chaired by Art Benveniste, and presenters were Genie Milgrom, Jesús Jambrina and Marion Fischel via a preview of her documentary on the same topic.
Milgrom's talk dealt with the historical context of the Jews of Portugal, which provides a time frame for her recent genealogical investigation on Crypto Jews in the Tras Os Montes region where some members of her family from Fermoselle (Zamora) relocated after 1492.
Jambrina's paper explored the narratives through which three local families from Sanabria, Villanueva del Campo and Fermoselle have been realizing that some "strange" traditions practiced at home were, in fact, Jewish traditions incorporated into the domestic rituals without questioning these traditions' origins.
Marion Fischel's documentary preview presented some interviews and data information from the I International Congress on the Jewish Legacy of Zamora in 2013. At the moment she is working on her project. The panel concluded with a Q&A
